Springfield clinches share of ICL crown with 10-1 win
Dane Dobson and John Houser backed Jeremy Savaet and Todd Kibby.
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Dane Dobson had three hits and two RBIs as the Springfield High baseball team defeated Jackson-Milton, 10-1, to clinch a share of the Inter-County League title.
John Houser had a single and a two-run homer for the Tigers (17-5, 11-1).
Jeremy Savaet and Todd Kibby combined on a three-hitter for the winners, who have a two-game lead on McDonald with two ICL games left.
Savaet gave up two hits and Kibby the third. Savaet had four strikeouts.
Houser's home run came with Dobson on base. Dobson finished with two RBIs, Chris Martin had two doubles and two RBIs.
John Mrosko had two hits including an RBI double for Springfield.
Nick Serb had Jackson-Milton's RBI while Brad Moody (double) and Matt Shields had the Bluejays' other hits.
Niles 10, East Liverpool 0
EAST LIVERPOOL -- The Red Dragons (16-3, 8-2 Metro Athletic Conference) scored five runs in the first inning and five more in the second to prevail in the five-inning game.
Anthony Roberts, Kyle Pitts and Pat DiCristofaro had two hits apiece for Niles.
Jon Montgomery and Kris Carr each had two hits for the Potters.

YOUNGSTOWN -- The win gives the Raiders (15-7, 5-1 Steel Valley Conference) a tie with Ursuline for the league crown.
Winning pitcher Tom Popadak (6-1) struck out six batters and walked none in the five-inning four-hitter.
Andy Dobson and Willie Sekula doubled.
North Canton Hoover 8, Fitch 2
CANTON -- Fitch's 2-1 lead went by the wayside when North Canton Hoover erupted for one run in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth in the Federal League game.
Rich Nicodemo had three hits for NHC (15-4, 7-2).
Junior Joe Koch had two singles and senior Mike Rose doubled for Fitch (12-6, 3-4).
The teams play again this afternoon at Fitch.
Lakeview 8, Girard 6
GIRARD -- Josh Daniels drove in two of Lakeview's three runs in the top of the seventh inning on a ground-rule double to help the Bulldogs pad their 5-4 lead to 8-4.
That enabled the Bulldogs to survive Girard's rally in the bottom of the seventh in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
Dave DeJacimo pitched a seven-hitter to get the mound win and he also added a double and single.
Mark Novotny belted a solo homer and single and scored three runs to aid the winners (910, 7-4 TAC). Daniels also had a single to finish with two hits
Girard's eight errors also contributed to Lakeview's win.
For Girard, R.J. Trimbur had a double, two singles and two RBIs while Dave Sherock also had two RBIs.
McDonald 2, Western Reserve 0
McDONALD -- Corey Vukovic (5-1) fired a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts to pick up the win for McDonald (13-7, 10-3 Inter-County League).
McDonald scored its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as Anthony Fossacecca singled and moved to second on a sacrifice.
Steve Hughes doubled him home and Hughes scored on a single by David Dugan.
Mathews 16, Bristol 6
VIENNA -- Ben Mackall homered and doubled for the Mustangs (11-8, 11-2 Northeastern Athletic Conference).
John Scudier homered, Cory Fiest tripled and Luke Weymer doubled.
Mackall and Adam Collier drove in four runs while Tarin Brown had three RBIs.
For Bristol (5-9, 4-6), Richard Benchia had two of the Panthers' five hits. One was a double.
