May 14 is the day to recognize one of our favorite people in the world: Mom! Tired of giving flowers and spa gift certificates? Here's a list of our top gift ideas:
* For the golfing mom: Golf clothes.
Women are hitting the links in increasing numbers. Look for fabrics that are lightweight and have added Lycra for extra comfort and flexibility. Make sure pants have easy-access pockets for holding those tees and scorecards.
* For the overworked mom: Maid service.
All moms need a break from housework, and not just on Mother's Day. Get her a gift certificate (or two) from a house cleaning service. Be sure to check references before bucking up.
* For the stylist mom: Wedgies and platform sandals.
What woman would say no to a new pair of shoes? Wedge and platform shoes are high on the list of must haves this spring, and they're available in a multitude of heights, colors, fabrics and prices. The trendy cork sole offers extra cushioning and comfort. When shopping, try a pair in your size to gauge whether mom can handle the height.
* For the culinary mom: A stand mixer.
If she loves to bake, nothing will make her job easier than this kitchen appliance. Look for a mixer that revolves around the bowl at the same time the beater tool is spinning, to ensure that everything is well mixed. A fave is KitchenAid's Artisan stand mixer, which comes in 14 gorgeous shades.
* For the mom who has everything: Faux ivory ball beads.
Follow Sienna Miller's lead and replace those Jet black beads of winter with a faux ivory ball beaded necklace, bracelet or earrings for the summer months. But don't spend too much! This is a trendy item and available at every price point.
