Canfield 16, Warren Harding 0
CANFIELD -- Lauren Sulick tossed her fourth no-hitter of the season, striking out 10. The Cardinals (11-1) sent 11 players to the bat in the first inning to jump out to a 7-0 lead. Lauren McGivern hit a triple and single, and drove in two runs during the surge. Kaylie McMurray hit a pair of singles and scored once for the Cardinals. Canfield will host Fitch on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
Boardman 12, Rayen 0
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 10-run second inning backed up the combined no-hitter pitched by Kelsey Ford and Shannon Morrow. Each struck out five batters. Ford also hit a pair of doubles and a single to drive in four runs. Jamie Amero hit a double and single to drive in three runs. Liz Padgitt hit a double and single while Nicole Williams and Julie Franko hit a pair of singles each. Boardman will host Howland on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
Division IV
Columbiana 8, St. Thomas Aquinas 2
COLUMBIANA -- Kayla Seybert pitched a four-hitter with five strikeouts and five walks as Columbiana rallied from a 2-0 deficit. Columbiana scored three runs in the sixth inning and five in the seventh to prevail. Kelly Howard had an RBI double while Tierney Steiginga and Paige Papania had two singles apiece for the Clippers (9-8). Seybert improved to 4-3. Christina Mastroianni had two singles for St. Thomas.
Columbiana will play East Canton on Tuesday at Columbiana.
BASEBALL
Division II
Ravenna 15, Salem 3
RAVENNA -- A 10-run third inning by Ravenna put the game out of reach. Shane Anderson (2-1) scattered six hits with six strikeouts to pick up the win. Mike Ladd hit a triple and home run to pace the Ravens (11-6), who took advantage of seven errors by Salem. Zack O'Brien hit a double and Derek Ball a triple to pace the Quakers (10-12).
Akron Springfield 9, Southeast 1
RAVENNA -- Akron Springfield scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to get a jump on Southeast in the GlenOak sectional. Donny Ritch had a home run, double and single to spark Springfield (14-7). Ritch also pitched the six-hit win. Joe Knopick and Marcus Watson each had a double for Southeast (6-15).
Division III
Struthers 13, South Range 3 (5 innings)
STRUTHERS -- South Range's 2-0 lead was short-lived when Struthers bounced back with three runs in the second inning when Adam Wilaj and Mike Barone had RBI singles at Cene Park. Wilaj knocked in one run and Barone pushed across two in the second when the Wildcats went on top, 3-2.
Struthers added six runs in the fourth.
Wilaj finished with two singles and two RBIs, while Barone finished with three singles. Ryan Stanko added two singles for Struthers (6-15). Freshman Jake Thomas pitched a five-hitter with five strikeouts and four walks for the Wildcats whose next tournament game is against Springfield on Wednesday at Cene Park at 4:30 in a sectional final. Chris Gause tripled and Robert Bensinger doubled for South Range.
Champion 12, Campbell 3
CHAMPION -- Mark Jackson tossed a two-hitter to lead Champion. Chad Kinkead and Max Brugler each had three hits for the Golden Flashes. Kinkead scored four runs while Matt Popadak had two hits. For Campbell (4-12), Ryan Burton and Eligio Bonilla had hits.
Warren JFK 3, Newton Falls 2
NEWTON FALLS -- Freshman pinch-hitter Dominic Lappolla smacked a single to score Brian Guarnieri from second base in the last of the seventh inning, to snap a 2-2 tie and give Warren JFK the win. Guarnieri opened the seventh with a double. The Eagles scored their other two runs in the fourth on Tim McBride's two-run sacrifice fly. Scott Difford added two singles for the winners. Josh Cooper pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and three walks for JFK (13-6), which advanced to play Ursuline next Wednesday at Cene Park.
