Myers gets seventh win on 3-hitter for Howland
Mooney completed its first unbeaten season in the Steel Valley Conference.
SALEM -- Ali Myers improved to 7-1 Wednesday as the Howland High softball team defeated Salem, 4-0.
Myers struck out nine batters and walked one in tossing a three-hitter for the Tigers (18-4, 8-2 Metro Athletic Conference).
Desiree Sibera had two of Howland's six hits and one was a double.
For Salem (7-11, 3-7), McKenzie Clark and Stephanie Szabat doubled.
Poland 11, Campbell 0
POLAND -- Allie Patton (3-1) and Liz Maher combined to pitch a two-hitter with Patton picking up the win in the MAC contest.
Kari Thompson hit a pair of doubles, single and drove in two runs for the Bulldogs (15-3, 7-1). Patton hit a triple and single and scored twice and Jenna Susany hit a double and single and scored twice.
Struthers 11, Ursuline 7
VIENNA -- The Wildcats scored six times in the fourth inning to break the game open.
Jeannette McLaughlin, Dom Martino and Halle Minchin-Skook each had two of Struthers' 12 hits. McLaughlin and Minchin-Skook each drove in two runs.
Also for Struthers (11-7), Sara Salinas and Ellen Becker doubled.
Vannessa Dickson led Ursuline's offense with a home run and triple as she drove in three runs.
Jolanta Carkido tripled while Jenna Klempay doubled for the Irish (14-9).
Mooney 22, Chaney 2
YOUNGSTOWN -- Colleen Courtney and fourth-inning reliever Kelcie Herberger combined to pitch a two-hitter.
Mooney slammed 12 hits and was aided by nine Chaney errors as the Cardinals romped at Wick Recreation Area in a Steel Valley Conference game.
Herberger had four strikeouts and rapped three singles, scored twice and had one RBI.
DiAndra DiBacco slugged a two-run homer while Mimi Vitello had a run-scoring triple and two RBIs to also pace Mooney. Sarah Reardon and Veronica Skowrow each had two singles.
Mooney (17-6, 6-0 SVC), coached by Mark Rinehart in his 14th season, completed its first unbeaten season in the SVC.
Springfield 3, Jackson-Milton 0
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Colleen Platt worked four innings and Krista Snyder three as scattered nine hits as Springfield improved to 14-6 overall and 11-0 in the Inter-County League game.
Samantha Cavalier hit two doubles and a single to pace the Tigers.
Losing pitcher Krista Kiraly (13-11) hit a double and single for the Bluejays (14-11, 6-7). Carrie Fiol hit a pair of singles.
South Range 6, Lowellville 0
NORTH LIMA -- Alexis Binder (5-11-1) pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts to pick up the victory.
Megan Beachley hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to trigger the Raiders (5-12-1) offense.
Losing pitcher Karla Blinsky (8-10) led off the second inning with a single to spoil Binders chance for a no-hitter. The Rockets slipped to 10-10, 2-9 ICL.
United 7, Southern 1
SALINEVILLE -- Chelsea Fennis homered, Alisha Syx tripled and Jenny McDevitt doubled for the Eagles in the Tri-County League game.
Jess John and Erin Briceland had two hits for United. Winning pitcher Karissa Heuer struck out six batters.
For the Indians, Emily Ramsey tripled.
