Hearing on liquor license to be held

CANFIELD -- A hearing on the Canfield School District's objection to a liquor license for AngeNetta's Cafe on Cardinal Drive is set for Thursday in Youngstown.
An officer for the Ohio Division of Liquor Control will oversee the hearing at 11:30 a.m. at the Youngstown city hall on the fourth floor in the law library.
The public may attend the hearing, but only sworn witnesses will be permitted to speak, said a spokesman for the division.
Speaking for the school district will be Superintendent Dante Zambrini and school board member David Moore. Zambrini said Moore will also speak as a property owner and as a parent.
The district was granted a hearing because the restaurant is within 500 feet of the high school on Cardinal Drive. Public entities such as schools, churches and parks can object if a business within 500 feet of them applies for a liquor license.
The restaurant had placed a liquor option on the November ballot, which passed with 68 percent of the vote in Precinct 5. The option was site specific for the restaurant only.
The hearing officer will gather evidence and testimony, and will make a recommendation to the division superintendent. If the superintendent overrules the objection, there is no right of appeal for the school board, according to the division spokesman.
