Bucco helps Lakeview retain lead



LaBrae needed eight innings to squeak past Liberty and stay on top.
BROOKFIELD -- Brittney Bucco had three hits, one RBI and one run scored as the Lakeview High softball team defeated Brookfield, 15-0.
With the win, the Bulldogs (15-3, 9-2 Trumbull Athletic Conference) remain tied with LaBrae for first place in the league.
Chelsea Butler and JoAnna Novotny had two hits including doubles. Also with two hits in the five-inning game were Jen Baker and Kelly Moore. Kailynn Cerny (9-2) tossed a one-hitter.
For Brookfield, Mary Palumbo's fifth-inning single broke up Cerny's no-hitter.
LaBrae 3, Liberty 1 8 innings
LIBERTY -- A two-run homer by Lia Gordon in the top of the eighth inning delivered LaBrae's go-ahead runs.
Lindsey Higgins pitched a four-hitter and had seven strikeouts for the Vikings.
Melissa Dykes, Michelle Dykes, Sarah Stofko and Brianna Palumbo each had a single apiece for Liberty (5-10, 4-8 TAC).
Champion 3, Girard 0
CHAMPION -- Champion scored three runs on errors in the fifth inning to subdue Girard behind Jaclyn Carpenter's four-hitter with 14 strikeouts and two walks.
Hillary Beachy had two doubles had two doubles for Champion (12-5 and 8-3 TAC).
Hillary Patterson had two singles for Girard (4-17, 1-11 TAC).
Hubbard 7, Newton Falls 3
NEWTON FALLS -- Hubbard's quick 2-0 lead after one-half inning expanded to 7-0 an inning later for the Eagles (10-7, 5-4 TAC).
Callie Olyer and Kim Budd both had two hits and Corrie Gasser had a double and two RBIs for the winners.
Junior Marissa Matas and freshman Stephanie Blair had a double apiece for Newton Falls (13-8). Blair finished with two RBIs.
Carrollton 11, West Branch 0
BELOIT -- Ally Lowdermilk pitched a three-hitter for Carrollton, which also was led by Samantha Bond with three doubles and five RBIs in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference game.
Chelsea Shuts added a double and two RBIs to support Carrollton (16-6 and 9-3 NBC).
West Branch is 7-16 and 1-12.
Field 7, Southeast 2
RAVENNA -- Samantha Ricketson had three singles, Stephanie Orms had two triples, Bryna Klein-Herman had a two-run homer and Megan Simone pitched a three-hitter for Field (7-9, 4-6 Portage County League).
Lindsay Speidell doubled for Southeast.
