Big money awaits at Sharon Speedway
There will be a $50,000 bonus to any driver taking The $50,000 Challenge.
SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR
How do you make a high-powered World of Outlaws Sprint Series event even more exciting? Try adding a little extra cash as a bonus to the winner. Maybe more than just a little extra cash.
The traditional Month of Money might not start until mid-July, but that hasn't stopped Dave Blaney and Sharon Speedway from joining Lernerville Speedway to offer a $50,000 bonus to any driver who is up to taking The $50,000 Challenge.
If the winner of the Commonwealth Clash on May 19 at Lernerville Speedway agrees to take The $50,000 Challenge, that racer can pocket the bonus by winning the next night at Sharon Speedway.
Since both events offer a $51,600 purse that pays $10,000 to the winner, there's a potential $70,000 available for capturing the checkered flag on back-to-back nights.
There is a requirement
Of course, there is a catch. To make it more exciting, the driver who wins the Commonwealth Clash and agrees to take The $50,000 Challenge will start the main event at Sharon Speedway from the 24th spot on the grid.
That driver will have 40 laps around the 3/8-mile oval to accomplish the feat, and the event will switch from a full points race to one offering a flat point total to all participating teams -- just to ensure teams don't hold anything back.
"This event is extra special because the winner of the previous night's race at Lernerville will have the option of accepting The Challenge to start in the rear of the field to earn a $50,000 bonus if he comes through the field to take the win," said Dave Blaney, co-owner of Sharon Speedway and 1995 World of Outlaws champion.
"I can't wait," said Joey Saldana, a Mean 15 racer who not only has visited Victory Lane at Lernerville and Sharon, but also owns Lernerville's single-lap record. "I hope I win at Lernerville because I'll take The Challenge and go to the rear at Sharon. It'll be tough, but it's worth a shot at $50,000."
Several others favorites
Several other Mean 15 racers would have to be considered as favorites in The $50,000 Challenge. Current championship points leader Donny Schatz has had success at Lernerville -- winning the Commonwealth Clash on May 21, 2003 -- and Chad Kemenah earned victories at both tracks last season.
The regional competition also will be fierce with an extra $50,000 at stake. Ed Lynch Jr., who pocketed $35,000 for winning the 2002 Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup, is the all-time sprint division feature winner at Lernerville and a regular visitor to Sharon's Victory Lane, too.

The tickets for the Commonwealth Clash at Lernerville Speedway are $25 for adults (age 14 and older) with reserved seats $27. Kids (ages 6-13) are $12. Children 5-and-under are free in general admission and children 3-and-under are free in reserved seating. Pit passes are $27 for DIRT members and $32 for non-members.
