Boy charged in rape of girl in Boardman

BOARDMAN -- A 14-year-old township boy was charged with raping a 14-year-old girl at a South Avenue apartment.
Police arrested the teen on the rape charge Monday after interviewing him at the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center, where he was lodged on an unrelated probation violation.
The girl, also a township resident, told her mother about the April 11 rape April 13, and her mother reported it to police.
The girl, the 14-year-old boy and other juveniles were at the apartment of a friend drinking April 11. The girl said she drank one beer and then went home.
The accused and another boy followed her into her apartment, and the accused raped her, according to police reports.
Both boys then left the girl's home. She said she didn't immediately report the rape because she was afraid she would get into trouble for drinking.
