Hotel employees reported the three men were trying to get into the locked lobby.
BOARDMAN -- Police arrested three Youngstown men on charges stemming from the robbery of three women walking along Tiffany South.
Alexander J. Mitchell, 19, of Parkwood Drive, was charged with three counts of aggravated robbery and attempted aggravated robbery.
Troy J. Sutton, 20, of Falls Avenue, was charged with complicity to aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon, and Michael E. Hardy, 20, of West Glenaven Avenue, was charged with attempted aggravated robbery, drug abuse and carrying a concealed weapon.
All of the charges are felonies, and the men remain in the Mahoning County Jail. Preliminary hearings for each are set for Tuesday in Mahoning County Area Court.
Shortly before 11 p.m. Monday, police got a call that employees of the Red Roof Inn, Tiffany South, saw three men trying to get into the hotel. One of them had a rifle, one of the employees said. The three men left the area when they couldn't get into the hotel lobby.
While responding to that call, police got another call of a robbery of three guests of the Fairfield Inn who were walking along Tiffany South.
How robbery occurred
The three victims, women ages 22, 23 and 24, told police they were walking along the road shortly before 11 p.m. Monday, headed to a restaurant, when a car with the three men in it pulled up alongside of them. One of the men got out of the car, pointed a handgun at them and demanded money.
The women complied, and one of them gave her purse to the man.
Police stopped the car on Sheridan Road, south of Midlothian Boulevard, and found the woman's purse on the floor inside.
The three women and the Red Roof Inn employees were brought to the scene and identified the three men.
Police found a shotgun on the back seat of the car and a handgun on the floor. They also found $419 on Mitchell including some inside his underwear. A small plastic bag of suspected cocaine was found in Hardy's pants pocket.
Police also found a driver's license, personal check and a U.S. Treasury check made out to three different people in Hardy's pockets, according to a police report.
