Sarah Stofko's hit lifts Leopards
North Canton Hoover, the state's top-rated team in Division I, beat Boardman.
LIBERTY -- Sarah Stofko slammed a two-run single in the second inning for Liberty to give the Leopards the lead, and they held on for a 2-1 win in a Trumbull Athletic Conference softball game Monday.
Liberty improved to 5-9, including 4-7 in the TAC.
Champion (11-5, 7-3) scored its run in the first inning on Hillary Beachy's single.
Emily Hayes had a double and two singles for Champion.
Mooney 6, Lakeview 1
CORTLAND -- Colleen Courtney (9-6) pitched a complete game with four strikeouts to pick up the win for Mooney (16-6).
Trailing 1-0, Laura Guyer singled to drive in a run for the Cardinals in the top of the sixth inning. Katie Hughes, who had also singled, then scored the go-ahead run.
Mooney added four runs in the seventh.
Guyer finished with two singles and two RBIs.
Michelle Antonelli hit a double and single and scored the run for the Bulldogs (13-3).
North Canton Hoover 6,Boardman 1
CANTON -- Hoover, the state's top-rated team in Division I, leads the Federal League with a 7-0 record and is 17-2 overall.
Kate Pakenham paced Hoover with three singles and two RBIs.
The Spartans' (3-11, 0-6) Jamie Amero singled home Julie Franko, who was running for losing Boardman pitcher Kelcy Ford (4-7), who had singled in the sixth inning.
Poland 19, Salem 0
POLAND -- Thirteen batters went to the plate for the Bulldogs (14-3, 6-1) as they scored nine runs to put the Metro Athletic Conference game out of reach.
During the big inning, which gave Poland a 13-0 lead, Kari Thompson hit a home run and single and Ashley Conger hit a pair of singles.
Thompson finished with a double, the home run and two singles. She scored twice. Conger had three singles and scored twice and Liz Maher hit a triple and double, drove in four runs and scored twice.
Jackson-Milton 22, Lowellville 1
NORTH JACKSON -- The Bluejays (13-10, 6-6 Inter-County League) seized a 16-0 lead after three innings.
Krista Kiraly (12-10) allowed just one hit and struck out five.
Kortney Gherardi had two hits, one a double, for the Bluejays.
Mathews 8, Badger 3
KINSMAN -- The Mustangs' Caitlyn Youngs struck out 12 batters and walked one to improve to 12-1.
Rachel Woolf tripled and doubled for Mathews (16-3-1, 10-1 Northeastern Athletic Conference). Youngs and Woolf each drove in two runs.
United 2, Southern 1
HANOVERTON -- Hannah Crews had 15 strikeouts, but Southern lost when United scored in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Winning pitcher Jess Vincent had nine strikeouts and doubled at the plate. Brooke McCartney and Abby Miller scored for the Eagles.
Emily Ramsey had a single and stolen base and scored Southern's only run.
