COLUMBUS -- Vindicator sports reporter Joe Scalzo won three awards in the annual Associated Press Society of Ohio newspaper competition, announced Sunday.
Scalzo won first place for best sports breaking news, for his story about Maurice Clarett's selection in the NFL draft.
He was also named runner-up for best sports writer and was third in judging for best sports columnist.
Scalzo, 26, has been at The Vindicator since 2001. He won an award for best column from the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association earlier this year.
