Emergency response to be taught



The training sessions offer an Israeli approach to emergency preparedness.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning County Emergency Management Agency and Humility of Mary Health Partners, in partnership with the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation, are offering an emergency preparedness seminar April 4 from the International School of Emergency Management, Tel Hai College, Kiriat Shmona, Israel.
This is the first time the ISCEM has conducted a seminar in the United States.
When, where and what
The program will feature two identical sessions from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 6 to 10 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Health Center's Finnegan Auditorium, Belmont Avenue.
Israel is on the cutting edge of disaster response, and these free training sessions will offer a unique expert Israeli approach to emergency preparedness. The ISCEM curriculum includes field experience and long-term research into effective community emergency management.
The session will be led by Dr. Mooli Lahad, an expert in psycho-social emergency preparedness, and Ruvie Rogel, an expert in preparedness courses in multicultural settings. They will include a victim's perspective, a community organizational perspective, and examination of communication issues related to crisis management.
This seminar is designed for first responders, medical and mental health-care professionals, health department employees and community support organizations. The program is free, but registration is required.
This program is co-sponsored by the Trumbull County Emergency Management Agency, Mahoning Police Chief's Associations, Mahoning County Fire Chief's Associations, Trumbull County Fire Chief's Associations, Mahoning County Sheriff Randall Wellington, Trumbull County Sheriff Thomas Altiere, and the Mahoning County Mental Health Board and Agencies.
