Brother Derek has easy win

With a City and Discreet Cat also joined the Derby hopeful crowd over the weekend.

Brother Derek is warming up well for his final Kentucky Derby prep race.
With the Santa Anita Derby less than two weeks away, Brother Derek worked six furlongs Sunday with regular rider Alex Solis aboard. Time for the breeze at Santa Anita was a solid 1:11.
"He did it just about like the last few weeks," trainer Dan Hendricks said. "We'll come back next week with a three-quarters or so work Saturday or Sunday and we're all set."
After the Santa Anita Derby, it'll be four weeks before Hendricks would saddle his first Derby starter.
Remains No. 1
Brother Derek, winner of the Santa Catalina and the San Rafael in his two starts this year, remained No. 1 in this week's Run to the Roses Top 10 list of Derby contenders.
A win in the Santa Anita Derby would all but clinch the Derby favorite role for the 3-year-old colt with five victories in seven career starts.
While Brother Derek has dominated at Santa Anita, the biggest question is whether he can run as well at other tracks.
On a light weekend of Derby preps, a few new shooters joined the Derby hopeful crowd, including With a City, winner of Saturday's Lane's End Stakes at odds of 48-1, and Discreet Cat, a six-length winner of the UAE Derby in Dubai.
Also, Henny Hughes may be back in the picture. The colt was set to be returned to the United States from Dubai to prepare for the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct on April 8. Kiaran McLaughlin, who trained the Breeders' Cup Juvenile runner-up last year, will again handle the colt in New York.
Ones to watch
McLaughlin also trains Like Now, who won the Gotham Stakes on March 15 and is ranked No. 7 this week. His Flashy Bull -- second in the Fountain of Youth on March 4, is one to watch next Saturday in the $1 million Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park.
Barbaro, unbeaten in four races, makes his first start in eight weeks as the likely favorite in the 1 1/8-mile Florida Derby.
There were few changes in this week's Top 10. Corinthian, eighth last week, had a minor leg injury during a morning gallop and was pulled off the Triple Crown trail by trainer Jimmy Jerkens.
Point Determined, one of several Derby prospects for trainer Bob Baffert, moves in at No. 9. The son of Point Given was second behind A.P. Warrior in the San Felipe on March 18.
