YOUNGSTOWN -- The eighth annual Our Lady of Mount Carmel Italian Festival is set for July 20-23 on the parish grounds, off Rayen Avenue.
Last year, more than 10,000 people attended the festival in the downtown area.
The festival will again this year present two $1,000 scholarships to Youngstown State University on opening day. Television personalities and university dignitaries will be on hand for the presentations.
The festival committee is seeking boys and girls ages 6-9 for the Little Prince and Princess contest. The committee is also seeking participants for the Red and White Wine Tasting contest. To apply, call Tony Trolio at (330) 757-2779.
Scheduled to perform this year are headliners Gianni Monti and Lisette of Florida; Natalie Pinto, New Jersey; Avanti Italian Showband, Cleveland; the Capri Band, Ellwood City, Pa.; and local favorites Franco Simone and LeOnde, Rocky Chirchiglia, Frank Gallo, Rocky Monaco, John Gabriele, Jim Frank Trio, Geri & amp; Co., Corner Pocket, and the Rex Taneri Band.
Daily admission is $3, and a four-day pass can be bought in advance for $5. Senior citizen discounts are available. Tickets can be bought from any committee member or by calling Trolio.
Variety show is back
MINERAL RIDGE -- "Escapades 2006" will be presented Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Mineral Ridge High School Auditorium, 1334 Seaborn St.
This variety show, featuring singers, bands, flashy dance routines and wild comedy, is in its 20th year. Proceeds benefit the Mineral Ridge High School Scholarships Fund.
Tickets are sold at the door for $5. Seating is limited.
Art gallery workshops
WARREN -- A pack-rat therapy session is just one of the workshops being offered this spring at Trumbull Art Gallery, 196 E. Market St. The one-day workshop, Trash to Treasures, on April 2, will be taught by Bret Hines, whose assemblages are on display in the gallery.
Other classes and workshops are being offered for ages 3 through adult. Children ages 3 to 5 can have fun while learning the basics with Clay Station Creations or create a mobile for their rooms at Major Fun Mobiles.
Drawing and watercolors are the materials for elementary youngsters, while teens will have opportunities to create their own books or take a piece of clay from hand-building to glazing and firing.
Adults can register for classes in the basics or stretch their creativity with jewelry making or Shibori dying.

Faculty recital at MUC
ALLIANCE -- Mount Union College will present a faculty recital featuring the Glamorgan Trio at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Presser Recital Hall.
The Glamorgan Trio consists of James E. Perone, professor of music, on clarinet, Elaine M. Anderson, associate professor of music, on violincello and Kathy Reichenberger, accompanist of music, on piano. The trio will perform selections by Beethoven, Rick Sowash and Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka.

Art on display
SALEM -- Elizabeth Babb's art will be featured at Chappells House of Pictures & amp; Frames between Saturday and May 28, including a reception April 23 from 1-4 p.m.
Babb, of Columbiana County, finds inspiration through her love of music and nature.
Her work can be found in collections worldwide, and she has participated in temporary showings, including a solo show at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown and a show in New York City.
2 will be honored
YOUNGSTOWN -- Frank Lellio, director of operations of Rossi Bros. Funeral Home, and Ron Quaranta, owner of Caffe Capri restaurant, both in Boardman, will be honored at Ciao Promotions' annual Italian dinner show May 11 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Social Center, 343 Via Mount Carmel.
Lellio is a Lowellville native, and Quaranta is from Boardman.
Entertainment will be provided by The Legendary Tenors. Tickets are $39.95 for dinner and the show (cash bar). Discounts are available. Tables of eight can be reserved.
