Woman killed in freak accident

WEATHERSFIELD -- A 63-year-old woman was killed in a freak accident in which she was run over by her own car.
Marie P. Wilkinson of 504 Cottage Pine Drive in the Westlake Trailer Park, a mobile home park at Edgewater Pines Drive and Austintown-Warren Road, died Thursday afternoon.
Township police Chief Joseph P. Consiglio said Wilkinson had stopped about 2:30 p.m. to pick up her mail from a row of mail boxes in front of the park.
He said it appears that Wilkinson partially put the gear shift of the car in the "park" position. When she got out of the car, the gear shift slipped and engaged.
She was knocked to the ground by the open car door, and a wheel ran over her head, Consiglio explained.
"It's a freakish thing," the chief said, noting that Wilkinson may have slipped and fell rather than the door knocking her to the ground.
