MERCER, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police in Mercer County will conduct a sobriety checkpoint next weekend. The location, date and time will be based on data from drunken driving arrests and crashes. A similar checkpoint the weekend of March 17 in Lawrence County by Pennsylvania State Police and Neshannock Township police resulted in 120 stopped vehicles, one person arrested for driving under the influence and possession of a small amount of marijuana, two people arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, and citation of one motorist driving while under DUI license suspension.
Woman reports rape
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 44-year-old homeless woman told police she was raped by a man she knows from a church bus who offered her a place to stay Friday night. The woman, who was interviewed by police at St. Elizabeth Health Center, said she was raped several times, beaten and forced to take a pill that made her dizzy. She said the attack took place at an apartment complex near Stambaugh Auditorium. The woman said that when she awoke she was allowed to leave and went to the police station downtown.
Meeting of trustees is rescheduled
NORTH LIMA -- Beaver Township trustees have moved their Monday meeting to 7 p.m. April 3 at the administration building. Trustees said they intend to discuss building plans and other township business. The date was changed because of scheduling conflicts.
Standoff with police ends in Struthers
STRUTHERS -- A man's standoff with police on Parkway Avenue began around 9 p.m. Friday and ended at 3 a.m. Saturday, police said. Youngstown police sent hostage negotiators and members of its Tactical Response Team. Struthers police provided no more information Saturday night, other than to say the man was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Meeting dates change for New Castle council
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- City council has changed two of its April meeting dates because of the Easter weekend holiday. Council's next caucus will be April 9 and the public meeting is scheduled for April 11. Both sessions will begin at 6:30 p.m.
