HERSHEY, Pa. -- Elk County Catholic stayed perfect until the end.
Jesse Bosnik had 22 points and 11 rebounds and Kevin Genevro added 20 points as the Crusaders broke open a close game in the third quarter before fending off a late rally in a 71-61 win over Scranton's Bishop Hannan to win the PIAA Class A title on Friday.
The Crusaders (33-0) entered the championship game as the only undefeated team in PIAA, and stayed that way after a decisive third-quarter run keyed by Josh Salter and the energetic Genevro.
With the game decided in the final seconds, Bosnik tossed the ball toward the Giant Center roof and Elk County fans chanted "E-C-C!" to celebrate the school's first title.
"Spurtability is a good word," said Aaron Straub, in his 24th season as Elk's coach. "Our team has the ability to score in bunches and I'm really happy with that."
Bishop Hannan (27-6) cut a 17-point deficit to five several times late, including 62-57 with about 58 seconds left after a three-point play by Justin Kearney.
The Crusaders pulled away from there by hitting free throws, including two from Bosnik and three late ones by Genevro.

Franklin had tough, seasoned guards and an effective big man occupying the paint -- too much of a one-two punch for Communications Tech to overcome.
Six-foot-5 center Nate Byham scored 22 points and had his way in the post before fouling out, and Jude Urda added 21 points as the Knights (27-5) beat Communications Tech of Philadelphia 74-63 to win the PIAA Class AAA title.

"Game time! Game time," the Parkland Trojans shouted in a huddle at mid-court before playing their biggest contest of the season. By game's end, they could call themselves champions.
Parkland of Allentown raced out to a big lead and Ashley Zuber hit some key second-half baskets in a 54-40 win over cold-shooting Council Rock North of Newtown to win the school's first Class AAAA title.
Ashley Yencho added 16 points, and Laura Baranek scored 14 and grabbed nine rebounds for Parkland (31-3).
Class AA
After hitting two free throws to give York Catholic the lead for the first time in the game, Megan Stewart went to the bench during a timeout, looking tired and out of breath.
No wonder: her team had to come back from a 19-point deficit midway in the third quarter to defeat Westmont Hilltop 48-43 to win the PIAA Class AA title.
