PIAA Philly finally a title town

HERSHEY, Pa. (AP) -- A Philly school finally has a PIAA title.
After a tight first half, Rodney Green and Dougleas Davis sparked an explosive third-quarter run to help Philadelphia's Prep Charter defeat Beaver Falls 82-51 to win the Class AA championship on Saturday.
Prep Charter (28-5) became the first team from the Philadelphia Public League to claim a title since the Philly schools joined the PIAA in 2004.
Defending champion Beaver Falls (27-5) kept up with the quick Huskies in the first half, but then got sloppy and went cold from the field in the second, when they committed 10 of their 14 turnovers.

Hopewell coach Chris Raso wasn't shy about barking out plays for forward Joyce Novacek, even though his opponents could hear him. His go-to player could rarely be stopped.
Novacek, a 6-foot-2 forward, scored 22 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and was a formidable presence on defense along with her twin sister, 6-1 forward Becky Novacek, in a 57-40 win over Allentown Central Catholic to win the school's first PIAA Class AAA title.
Nativity BVM 53, Conemaugh Valley 49
Nativity BVM's Angela Altemose skipped to center court and jumped into the arms of teammate Megan Witman, both players falling to the floor with big smiles.
It was quite a fitting celebration to a big game: Altemose and Witman played key roles in the second half of Nativity's 53-49 win over Conemaugh Valley to win the PIAA Class A title.
Altemose came up big on both ends of the court for the school from Pottsville. She hit an open 16-foot jumper to end a fourth-quarter dry spell and hustled on defense on two consecutive possessions to help the Golden Girls (27-6) come up with turnovers when their lead was 48-42 with less than four minutes to play.
