Officials seek body's identity

NILES -- City police and the Trumbull County coroner's office are attempting to learn the identify of a decomposed body discovered Thursday afternoon.
Police Chief Bruce Simeone said the body of a woman in her 50s was found along a tree line in the 600 block of Ann Street about 4:30 p.m.
Simeone said a woman was cleaning up her yard when she spotted a coat, thought it was a body and called police.
It appeared the body had been at the site "for several weeks or months," the chief said, noting the woman with grayish hair was dressed in a green parka and slacks.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation was called in to process the scene for evidence.
Simeone explained there was no immediate sign of a wound. There was no identification in the pockets that investigators could get into without disturbing the remains.
The coroner's office will conduct an autopsy this weekend in an effort to learn her identity and cause of death.
Police are also looking at missing persons reports to help in the identification.
