Hospital plans abuse memorial

BOARDMAN -- Forum Health Beeghly Medical Park will help the community recognize the 868 reported cases of child abuse or neglect in Mahoning County next month.
"Pinwheels for Prevention" will place one pinwheel for each reported case, based on 2004 statistics by Mahoning County Children Services, on the lawn in front of Building C at the medical park here April 6.
The event is similar to that hosted by Trumbull County Children Services Board in Warren last spring. The event is the first of its kind here in Mahoning County.
Similar events are scheduled for Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Courthouse Square in Lisbon and at 10 a.m. April 4 on the front lawn of Warren G. Harding High School, Warren.
"Pinwheels for Prevention" recognizes child abuse and neglect nationally during the month of April, which is Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month.
Community members, county officials, Hitchcock Woods Day Care Center preschoolers and the Boardman High School Chorale will attend the free event, which will feature a proclamation by county officials.
Female inmates from the Trumbull Correctional Institution will erect the pinwheels, and they will remain on display until the end of April.
The Tri-County Children's Advocacy Center and the Mahoning County Children Services Board in conjunction with Prevent Child Abuse Ohio and the Center for Child and Family Advocacy in Columbus will present the event.
