HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING Jameson loses final in national title meet

The Fitch sophomore's 45-match undefeated streak was snapped, 15-7.
PITTSBURGH -- Previously-undefeated Tony Jameson's bid to become the top sophomore wrestler in the United States was foiled Friday in the 125-pound division championship bout at the National High School Coaches Association National Wrestling Championships.
Jameson's 45-match winning streak this season came to end when he dropped a 15-7 decision to Marshall Koethe (Iowa, 43-1) in the 125-pound sophomore final at the Peterson Center.
Jameson (45-1), a two-time state champion, now has a two-year record of 85-3. He won the 103-pound state championship last year and the 119-pound title this year.
Koethe was an Iowa state champion this year after placing second as a freshman.
Jameson was one of eight Youngstown-area wrestlers competing Friday in various class and weight divisions, but the only one to qualify for a final.
Three lose, two win
Angelo Tabachino, Jameson's sophomore teammate at Fitch, lost 9-1 in the 275-pound class to David Lembass (Illinois) to place sixth.
Junior Justin Powell (215) of Boardman was pinned in 2:48 by Skip Crooks (Wyoming) to place fourth, while junior Ross Tice (Brookfield) lost at 152 to Daniel Waddel (Tennessee), 6-5, to also place fourth.
But juniors Nathan Sharp (West Branch) and Matt Walker (Alliance) both triumphed for seventh-place finishes. Sharp (275) beat Darren Collins (Delaware), 11-8, while Walker (215) prevailed, 5-3, over Nate Cooper (Oklahoma).
The top eight finishers in each weight division earned All-America honors.
Lamancusa wins pair
In the senior meet that started today, Andy Lamancusa (West Branch, 145) won a pair of matches, 6-2, and then 6-5, while Nick Bodnar (Fitch, 140) split two matches, winning 3-0 and then losing 1-0.
Both will continue to wrestle today.
Bodnar placed third in state this year and sixth as a junior, while Lamancusa won a state title this year.
