Fund-raiser to benefit boy

A Chinese auction also will be held to help the boy.
AUSTINTOWN -- Rock for Kaleb, a benefit for 8-year-old Kaleb Owens injured in an accident last year, will take place Friday at Crossroads Church, 554 S. Meridian Road.
Kaleb, a Cortland Elementary pupil, fell into a coma Oct. 15. He was riding in a wagon on a school outing with fellow pupils when he rolled off; a wheel ran over his head. The result was severe brain damage and a bruised brain stem.
He is recovering at his home with his parents, Amy and Matt Stockton.
Teen Fusion Ministries Inc. will sponsor the event, said Janyse Cain, co-founder of Teen Fusion and overseer of the event's organization.
Although Teen Fusion and Freq107 FM will sponsor the event, most of its organization was done by Dan Holloway, a South Range High School senior, who knows the family from church, Cain said.
Organization of the benefit is what Holloway decided to do as his senior project. He will earn a grade in addition to the service he is doing for Kaleb, Cain said.
The benefit will feature live music, performed by nationally touring Christian musicians Calls from Home and Freshmen15, along with local music by groups Gates Called Beautiful, Shudder and Never Die Wondering.
In addition to the music, there also will be a Chinese auction. Items donated by local businesses, including an acoustic guitar pack from New York Music, 7714 Market St., and a bicycle that resembles a Harley-Davidson motorcycle from Toys "R" Us, will be auctioned and all proceeds will go to Kaleb, Cain said.
Tickets can be bought at Heaven On Earth bookstore in Boardman, JMJ Spiritual Gifts in Cornersburg and South Range High School for $8 and at the door for $10. Youth groups of 10 or more can buy tickets at a discounted rate of $7 each.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show will begin at 7 p.m.
