COLUMBIANA Heartland School to mark 10th anniversary

Founders learned their dreams would be realized 10 years ago Thursday.

COLUMBIANA -- Heartland Christian School will mark its 10th anniversary with a celebration Thursday at the school, 28 Pittsburgh St.
Events will begin at 10 a.m. when a 22-member children's choir from Nanipur, India, performs. Other events will follow at 1:30 p.m., including the burial of a time capsule. Every class will choose one item to be placed inside the capsule, which will be opened in 15 years for the 25th anniversary celebration.
Every pupil will also participate in a balloon launch, which will involve about 250 purple balloons. Each balloon will have a postcard attached bearing the child's name and the school's address. The hope is to get return messages to see how far the balloons traveled.
Refreshments, music and praise services will also be available throughout the afternoon for pupils, their families, staff and guests.
Although the first day of classes at the school was actually Sept. 3, 1996, it was on March 30, 1996, that funding for the school was finalized, and founders, including current school Administrator Dallas Lehman, learned that their dream of having Christian school would finally be realized.
Faith, participation, learning
Heartland Christian is a parent-run school where the school board is made up of parents of children who attend. It's a private, Christian school, where faith is integrated into every aspect of the daily schedule including academics, sports and music.
As the school's Web site says, the school uses "traditional time-tested educational techniques combined with strong fundamental Christian values to provide a balanced education, which will provide the greatest benefit for our students."
Heartland Christian School welcomes pupils from preschool through 12th grade. Current enrollment is about 250.
