CATHOLIC CHURCH Youngstown Diocese accepts 5 retirements



The priests have served many churches and the diocese in many ways.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Monsignor Robert J. Siffrin, diocesan administrator, has accepted the retirements of five priests in the Diocese of Youngstown.
They are:
The Rev. Richard Brobst, senior priest at St. Luke Church in Boardman, who will retire May 1.
The Rev. Robert Gibas, pastor of St. Clement Church in Navarre.
The Rev. Robert Hannon, pastor of St. Patrick Church in Kent.
The Rev. Daniel Kulesa, pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in McDonald.
The Rev. John Lody, pastor of St. Bernadette Church, Masury.
All will retire July 1. They all completed studies at Mount St. Mary Seminary in Cincinnati.
UFather Brobst was ordained Aug. 14, 1965. He served as assistant pastor at St. Edward Church and St. Charles Church in Boardman and was a faculty member at Cardinal Mooney High School and St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Louisville. He was pastor of St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown, St. Joseph Church in Newton Falls and St. Brendan Church. Father Brobst has served as senior priest at St. Luke since 2000. On the diocesan level, Father Brobst was a team member of the Ministry to Priests Program, served as priests' personnel director and as a member of the Priests' Council.
UFather Gibas was ordained Dec. 30, 1962. He served as assistant pastor at St. Joseph Church in Canton, St. Ann Church in East Liverpool and St. Christine Church. He also was a faculty member at Cardinal Mooney. Father Gibas served as temporary administrator at St. Therese Church in Brewster in 1997 in addition to his pastorate at St. Clement, where he was appointed in 1988. He also served as a member of the Committee for Continuing Education of Priests and the Diocesan Liturgical Commission and was chaplain for the Knights of Columbus.
UFather Kulesa was ordained May 26, 1962. He served as assistant pastor at St. Edward Church and St. Pius X Church in Warren. Father Kulesa was temporary administrator at Sacred Heart Church in Rock Creek and on the faculty at St. John High School in Ashtabula. Father Kulesa served as pastor at Joseph Church in Ashtabula, Sts. Philip and James Church in Canal Fulton and has been at Our Lady of Perpetual Help since 1995. He also has served on the priests' personnel board and as chaplain for the K. of C.
UFather Hannon was ordained June 23, 1979. He served as assistant pastor at St. Mary Church in Warren, St. Michael Church in Canton, St. Stephen Church in Niles and St. Edward Church. His pastorates include St. Stephen, Sts. Philip and James and St. Patrick, where he has served since 2003. Father Hannon was a chaplain at Forum Health Northside Medical Center and as a member of the Priests' Council.
UFather Lody was ordained Dec. 30, 1962. He served as assistant pastor at St. Joseph Church in Alliance, St. Paul Church in North Canton and St. Nicholas Church in Struthers. He was on the faculty at John F. Kennedy High School in Warren and Ursuline High School. Father Lody has served as pastor of St. Pius X Church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Aurora, St. Joan of Arc Church in Canton and Sts. Philip and James Church. Since 2001, he has been at St. Bernadette. Father Lody served as a member of the Diocesan Liturgical Commission, the priests' retirement board and was dean of Stark County West Deanery.
The diocese did not provide ages or retirement plans for the five.
