COLUMBUS -- The Division I state championship game wasn't so much a celebration as it was a coronation.
The Bulldogs, led by five senior starters, put an exclamation point on their outstanding high school careers with a 63-33 rout of Trotwood-Madison Saturday night at Value City Arena.
Raymar Morgan, who is headed to Michigan State, scored a game-high 25 points for McKinley (25-2), which won its second consecutive state title and fourth overall.
Marcus Parker added 11 for the Bulldogs, while Ricky Jackson finished a fine tournament with 11. Jackson had 18 for McKinley in a semifinal win Friday.
Trotwood-Madison was led by Duane Morgan with nine points and Chris Wright with eight. The Rams finished with 24 turnovers.
Total control
The Bulldogs led from start to finish against Trotwood-Madison (22-6), making its first title game appearance.
It was only 3-2 a minute in, but McKinley ran off nine unanswered points to start a 20-6 run the made it 23-8 early in the second quarter.
After consecutive T-M layups, the Pups scored the next 11 points, taking a 34-12 lead into the locker room.
The dominance was typical McKinley -- bigger, faster and stronger players, guards Sedelle Broyles and Marcus Parker harassing the ball-handlers, and Morgan and Jackson controlling the boards and paint.
The Bulldogs forced 15 Trotwood-Madison turnovers by halftime and scored 14 points off those miscues.
Nothing changed after the intermission. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 34 points, 50-16, at the end of the third period, and 37 (55-18) midway through the fourth period.
It was McKinley's 23rd win this season by at least 15 points.
McKinley has appeared in 28 state tournaments and 10 championship games, the most of any Ohio school.
The Bulldogs became the first big-school team to win back-to-back titles since Cincinnati Elder in 1973-74.
Trotwood-Madison coach Ike Thornton was trying to duplicate the state title he won as a player on the 1981 Dayton Roth team that also featured Ohio State and NFL star Keith Byars.
