Bokowy tames Youngstown St. as Butler cruises to 12-4 victory

INDIANAPOLIS -- Butler starter Bryan Bokowy held Youngstown State scoreless for the first eight innings and the Bulldogs benefited from six unearned runs in a 12-4 victory Saturday at Bulldog Park.
Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was suspended after nine innings because of darkness with the score tied 3-3.
Erich Diedrich had two hits and all three of YSU's RBIs in the game, which will be completed today at noon. The series finale will begin shortly after.
Bokowy allowed eight hits in 8 1/3 innings and struck out five to earn his first win of the season. YSU's only runs came on a grand slam by Brian Dill with one out in the top of the ninth.
Dill, Banks aid YSU
Dill and Justin Banks had two hits for the Penguins, who dropped to 6-11 overall and 0-1 in the Horizon League. Joe Pauley had four hits and scored three times for the Bulldogs, who improved to 8-10 and 3-1.
Butler scored four runs in the second to go up 4-0 as the first five hitters of the inning reached base. The Bulldogs then blew the game open in the third inning by scoring five unearned runs with two outs.
Butler added a run in the fourth and two in the eighth to go up 12-0.
YSU starter Eric Shaffer dropped to 2-3 after allowing 10 runs on 10 hits in four innings. Joe Antinone threw two scoreless innings of relief before Matt Gnacinski surrendered two runs in two innings.
