Children's hospital to get $20.6M gift

CLEVELAND (AP) -- An affiliated foundation whose only charitable cause is Rainbow Babies & amp; Children's Hospital will give $20.6 million over five years to the hospital to help build a new intensive care unit for sick infants and attract top physicians.
The gift, announced Thursday from the Rainbow Babies & amp; Children's Foundation, is the largest for the 244-bed hospital. The hospital is a unit of University Hospitals of Cleveland.
The foundation was created when Rainbow Hospital merged in 1974 with Babies and Children's Hospital. The foundation traces its roots to 1887 and the Rainbow Circle of King's Daughters organization created to help needy Cleveland children.
The gift includes $5 million toward a $25.2 million neonatal intensive care unit, $5 million in matching funds to recruit and keep top physicians through 10 endowed chairs, $7 million for nonmedical programs to help families and $3.6 million for clinical programs.
