Regents board chancellor quits

COLUMBUS -- Roderick G.W. Chu has resigned as chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents effective May 12.
Chu has accepted a position to spearhead a special initiative at the Ralph Regula School of Computational Science.
The new initiative will develop a system that can evaluate the multitude of data concerning education and the state's economy, allowing the regents and their staff to see the consequences of significant changes in factors such as funding, enrollment, transfer, retention and completion. These insights will enable the regents to better advise policy-makers on the economic and educational impact of funding and reform decisions.
Chu's resignation was accepted at a special board meeting Tuesday. The board then appointed Vice Chancellor E. Garrison Walters as interim chancellor as it begins consideration of a search process.
One of the achievements during Chu's eight years as chancellor was the establishment of the Ralph Regula School of Computational Science, a virtual school established by the regents to build upon the strengths of Ohio's colleges and universities in the modeling of products and processes.
The Ohio Board of Regents is a nine-member coordinating board created to provide higher-education policy advice to the governor and General Assembly.
