GIRARD -- Kevin "Madman Pondo" Canady, above left, a professional wrestler and actor who stars in the Lions Gate film "2001 Maniacs," which comes out on DVD on March 28, will make a guest appearance at Movie Carnival, 237 N. State St. from 6 to 8 p.m. March 30. Canady will greet fans and sign autographs. In "2001 Maniacs," Canady co-stars with Robert Englund, above right, who is best-known for playing Freddy Krueger in the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series. The movie is a remake of "2000 Maniacs," the controversial 1964 horror film by Herschell Gordon Lewis. Canady is also the wrestler "Madman Pondo" in the IWA. He is featured in two video games for PlayStation 2 and Xbox: "Backyard Wrestling" and "Backyard Wrestling 2," where you have to beat Pondo to win the game. Movie Carnival, which specializes in horror and independent films, is owned and operated by Travis Bowen, who promotes the annual Dark X-mas horror and sci-fi convention in Warren. Dinner theater goesto 'Bayside High'
YOUNGSTOWN -- Community Corrections Association Inc. and the New York Dinner Theater will present their 23rd annual spring benefit, "Bayside High," a comedy alumni reunion, at 7:30 p.m. April 22 at Holiday Inn MetroPlex, Belmont Avenue, Liberty. The show will include dancing, dinner and audience participation. Attendees will take a stroll down memory lane with a zany group of alumni in this mock high school reunion. Italian-American Idolseeks contestants
YOUNGSTOWN -- The 2006 Greater Youngstown Italian Fest Committee announced it will hold an Italian-American Idol contest July 29 at the Canfield Fairgrounds. Three age categories will be judged: 8-13, 14-21 and 22 and up. Cash prizes will be awarded to one winner from each category. It is not necessary to be Italian to enter this contest.
