Buckeyes first No. 1 seed eliminated

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Boston College made Ohio State the first No. 1 seed to exit the NCAA women's tournament.
Kindyll Dorsey set a school record for an NCAA tournament game by hitting six 3-pointers and finished with 24 points, leading eighth-seeded Boston College to a 79-69 second-round upset of top-seeded Ohio State.
It was the biggest surprise of the tournament as the Buckeyes (29-3), a much-debated pick for the No. 1 seed, became the first top-seed to lose in the second round since Texas Tech in 1998.
Davenport gets 21
Despite getting 21 points and seven rebounds from Big Ten player of the year Jessica Davenport, Ohio State fell one win short of tying the school record for wins in a season. The Big Ten regular-season and tournament champs also saw the nation's longest winning streak end at 20 in the same venue the Buckeyes have endured much misery over the past 12 years -- Mackey Arena.
The Eagles (21-11) advanced to the Albuquerque Regional semifinal where they will play Utah.
For Boston College, the game had a far different look from its rout of Notre Dame two days earlier.
Instead of overpowering the Buckeyes with their strong inside game, Dorsey and Brooke Queenan loosened up Ohio State by hitting from outside and midrange. Queenan finished with 19 points and five rebounds.
And the Eagles took control early.
Big run early
They used a 12-2 run to pull away for an early 20-9 lead, and got the Buckeyes offense out of synch. Ohio State rallied with a 13-5 first half run to tie the score at 31, but Boston College finished the half on a 5-0 spurt to take a 38-35 lead.
Ohio State rallied again in the second half, taking a 48-46 lead when Kim Wilburn hit a 15-footer with 10:47 left.
But the Eagles tied it with two free throws from Sarah Marshall and went on a 15-5 run that made it 61-53. They sealed it with a late 8-2 run late that extended the margin to 70-60.
Kathrin Ress added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Eagles, while Marshall scored 11 points.
Marscilla Packer had 16 points and Brandie Hoskins 13 for the Buckeyes before hurting her left leg with 1:17 to go. There was no immediate update on Hoskins' injury.
Rutgers 82, TCU 48
TRENTON, N.J. -- Cappie Pondexter scored 24 points to lead Rutgers over TCU in the second round of the Cleveland Regional.
Matee Ajavon led four other players in double figures with 18 points and also had 13 assists for No. 3 seed Rutgers (27-4), which will face Tennessee on Sunday.
Rutgers' win was the 750th for coach C. Vivian Stringer in her 1,000th game spanning 34 years at Cheyney State, Iowa and Rutgers. Only Pat Summitt of Tennessee and Texas coach Jody Conradt have more wins.
Adrianne Ross, Vanessa Clementino and Ashley Davis scored 10 points apiece to lead TCU (19-12). The 11th-seeded Horned Frogs were playing their second tournament game without leading scorer and rebounder Natasha Lacy, who left the team last week to attend to an unspecified personal matter.
Rutgers played much better than in its last two games -- a 56-40 loss to West Virginia in the second round of the Big East Tournament and a more difficult than expected 63-58 win over No. 14 seed Dartmouth on Sunday.
Those struggles were a distant memory Tuesday as the Scarlet Knights trailed 8-2 before taking the lead and then outscoring the Horned Frogs 26-8 to take a commanding 39-20 advantage.
