Applying for help with tap-in fees
LAKE MILTON -- Now that the Mahoning County Sanitary Engineer's office has sent out tap-in notices regarding water and sanitary sewer projects here, help should soon be available to certain residents who may have difficulty paying the permit fees.
At their meeting Tuesday, Milton Township trustees announced two meetings next month to provide eligible residents with information about applying for financial assistance to pay the one-time fees. To qualify, residents have to meet certain income guidelines, explained Leni Schulz, township clerk.
Denise McCann of the U.S. Department of Agriculture will conduct both sessions and is to place an ad about them in The Vindicator by the end of this month, Schulz noted. The meetings are set to begin at 10 a.m. April 5 and 4 p.m. April 13 at the town hall building, 15990 Milton Ave.
Depending on a person's income, the USDA will pay for part or all of the $1,350 mandatory sewer tap-in fee, as well as the $1,500 tap-in fee for water, she continued. The water tap-ins are not mandatory because people with wells on their property can continue to use them, Schulz said.
