NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The shooting of two city men in a public housing complex does not appear to be drug-related, Police Chief Tom Sansone said.
The men, Lee Campbell, 18, of Sankey Street, and Marlon Mercer, 19, of Big Run Street were both shot in the chest about 12:31 p.m. Monday in the Neshannock Village Housing Complex.
Kailin Stewart, 19, of New Castle was taken into custody after the shooting and charged Monday evening with aggravated assault and a firearms violation. Sansone said more charges were pending depending on the outcome of surgery for the two victims.
Both victims were driven to Jameson Hospital in private vehicles and then flown to UPMC in Pittsburgh. Police said both were in critical condition Monday.
Sansone said no one living in the public housing complex called police after the shooting. The authorities were alerted by Jameson Hospital when the victims arrived.
Police said a 9 mm handgun was recovered in the area where the men were shot, 401-27 Neshannock Ave.
