NFL ROUNDUP | News and notes

Browns moves: Safety Chris Crocker was traded by the still-busy Cleveland Browns, who sent him to Atlanta for the Falcons' fourth-round pick in April's NFL draft. The Browns, who have overhauled their roster during free agency, also signed tight end Darnell Dinkins. He's the eighth player signed by Cleveland since free agency began earlier this month. Crocker, a third-round draft pick in 2003, started all 16 games for the Browns last season. He finished with 86 tackles and made two interceptions. With Crocker gone, the Browns' strong safety job will go to either Sean Jones or Brodney Pool. Jones played in 16 games last season after missing his rookie year with a torn knee ligament. Pool, too, was slowed by injuries last season but showed promise by making plays in 13 games. Dinkins made four starts last season for Baltimore, catching five passes for 55 yards.
Steelers re-sign Mays: Wide receiver Lee Mays, a sixth-round draft pick in 2002, re-signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers after finishing up the season with the Super Bowl champions. Mays was cut on Sept. 6 after missing part of training camp with an injured hamstring, but re-signed with the Steelers after wide receiver Quincy Morgan broke a leg in their wild-card playoff game against Cincinnati.
Lions: Detroit parted ways with Joey Harrington after four turbulent seasons during which the quarterback went from franchise savior to franchise goat. Coach Rod Marinelli declined to say whether Harrington was released. "I've decided to move in a different direction with the quarterback," he said. Harrington, drafted No. 3 overall in 2002, was 18-37 as a starter with the Lions under three coaches: Marty Mornhinweg, Steve Mariucci and Dick Jauron, who took over when he Mariucci was fired during the 2005 season. Harrington started 55 games, throwing for 10,242 yards with 60 touchdowns and 62 interceptions and a mediocre 68.1 passer rating. He will be replaced by Jon Kitna or Josh McCown, both former starters who agreed to terms in the last week.
Eagles: Quarterbacks Mike McMahon and Andy Hall were released three days after signing 36-year-old Jeff Garcia as Donovan McNabb's backup. McMahon played in nine games and went 2-5 as a starter in the final seven games for the Eagles last year after McNabb was sidelined with a sports hernia. McMahon completed 94 of 207 passes for 1,158 yards with five touchdowns and eight interceptions in nine games.
Bills: Craig Nall agreed to a three-year contract, believing Buffalo will give him the best shot as a backup quarterback. Agent Robb Nelson said he is completing terms of the deal that his client agreed to Sunday. Nall, an unrestricted free agent, also was being pursued by Green Bay and Minnesota, Nelson said.
Dolphins: Cornerback Will Allen signed a $12 million, four-year contract with Miami after spending the last five seasons with the Giants. The Dolphins also signed tight end Justin Peelle to a three-year deal.
Raiders: Oakland signed cornerback Tyrone Poole to a two-year contract for added depth in the secondary. Poole, an 11-year NFL veteran, played the past three seasons with the Patriots but was limited to six games the last two years because of injuries.
