Meteorologist Koontzsuffers a stroke
YOUNGSTOWN -- WFMJ TV-21's weekend meteorologist was in stable condition Sunday evening after suffering a stroke, the station reported.
Mark Koontz was flown by helicopter to the Cleveland Clinic from Forum Health Northside Medical Center where he was taken after Saturday's 6 p.m. show, the station said.
Doctors were working to dissolve a blood clot near his brain, and the station said that Koontz's prospects for recovery appear good.
Koontz came to Youngstown after spending most of his career at Cleveland television stations, WFMJ's Web site says. He is certified by the American Meteorological Association.
Italian Fest to holdIdol-type competition
CANFIELD -- The 2006 Greater Youngstown Italian Fest Committee will host its first Italian-American Idol competition July 29 at the Canfield Fairgrounds. Three age categories will be judged: ages 8-13, 14-21, and 22 and older.
Cash prizes will be awarded to one winner from each category.

Tornado drill, siren test
YOUNGSTOWN -- A statewide tornado drill and siren test will be conducted at 9:50 a.m. March 29 during Severe Weather Week.
In Mahoning County, safety services personnel will observe the drill at Stadium Elementary School, 111 Stadium Drive, Boardman.
Health-care careers
WARREN -- A free health-care careers workshop will be from 10 a.m. to noon March 28 at the Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority building at 4076 Youngstown Road S.E.
The workshop will cover health-care fields in greatest demand, local schools that train for medical careers, funding sources for training, employers seeking trained workers, and career pathways.
School representatives and successful recent graduates will attend.
The quarterly workshop is sponsored by Northeast Ohio Healthforce, a coalition of schools, employers and funding agencies, and by Trumbull County One-Stop.
