HOWLAND -- Howland Wilson Road at state Route 82 in Howland Township is now open. A week ago, a fatal crash at the intersection damaged the traffic signal. New flashing "Traffic Signal Ahead" signs have been installed about 700 feet before the intersection in both directions.
Man robbed at gunpoint
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police said a 33-year-old Newton Falls man was robbed at gunpoint as he got out of his vehicle in a parking lot at 2929 South Ave. shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday. The victim said two black men approached him and one pointed a handgun and demanded money. The victim handed over his wallet containing his driver's license and some credit cards, and the two robbers fled, running east on East Philadelphia Avenue. Both men were in their late teens. One wore a blue hoodie and gray pants; the other wore a black hoodie and dark pants, police said.
Handgun thefts
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police are investigating the theft of handguns from two residences. A woman living in the 300 block of West Heights Avenue told police Sunday that someone took a .380-caliber nickel-plated Jennings handgun between noon Saturday and 4:30 p.m. Sunday. There was no indication of forced entry to her home. A woman who lives in the 3100 block of Hillman Street told police that someone apparently entered her home through an unlocked rear window between Friday and Sunday and took a .40-caliber Smith & amp; Wesson semiautomatic handgun and a 20-inch Magnavox flat-screen television set.

Assaulted with pool cue
AUSTINTOWN -- A man told township police he was struck in the face with a pool cue at Noday's, 3713 Oakwood Ave. around 1 a.m. Sunday and needs surgery for a broken jaw.
Talk at nature center
ALLIANCE -- The John D. Huston-Dr. John Brumbaugh Nature Center presents Stephen Rickard as he speaks about Mount Rainier at 2 p.m. Sunday. Rickard has climbed Mount Rainier, a 14,410-foot dormant volcano in Washington. The nature center is six miles south of Mount Union College on Daniel Street, just off state Route 183.
