Heating help application deadline extended



HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The application deadline for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance program has been extended to April 14 or until funds are exhausted.
LIHEAP is a federal program that helps low-income people who can't pay their heating bills.
The program makes payments to utilities and helps in case of broken furnaces, leaky pipes or utility shutoffs.
Homeowners, renters (including those whose rent includes heat), roomers and subsidized housing tenants may be eligible, according to the Mercer County Assistance Office, 2236 Highland Road.
The maximum annual crisis benefit has been increased to $600.
