Columbiana County Common Pleas Court handles 3 sex-related cases
LISBON -- Three sex-related cases were handled or are being handled in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.
Joseph E. Peterson, 29, of North Elm Street, Columbiana, went on trial Monday before Judge David Tobin on two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
Peterson is alleged to have taken part in a variety of sex acts with a girl, now 15, in March and April of 2005.
Meanwhile, the 7th District Court of Appeals ruled that Judge Tobin has to resentence Paul Ice, 38, formerly of East Liverpool.
Ice was sentenced to 15 months in prison on two counts of pandering sexually oriented matter and voyeurism.
Ice secretly videotaped a nude 16-year-old girl and then spliced the video onto four commercial movies that were rented by a video store.
The appellate court said that Judge Tobin had not satisfied legal requirements on why he ordered Ice to prison instead of placing him on probation.
The appeals court had made a similar ruling in the case of Tony E. Hooper, 47, formerly of East Liverpool.
He had been serving a 15-year prison sentence imposed by Judge C. Ashley Pike on charges of rape and gross sexual imposition. Hooper raped a boy, then 9, in 2000 while threatening to kill him with a knife
Judge Pike reimposed the 15-year sentence Monday after meeting legal requirements.
