Christian earns spot on CHL all-star team



He is also one of six finalists for the league's MVP award to be named Friday.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown SteelHounds forward Jeff Christian has been named to the Central Hockey League all-star team.
Christian, who leads the CHL with 52 goals and is second with 96 points, was joined on the team by forwards Derek Hahn of Amarillo and Greg Pankewicz of Colorado, defensemen Serge Dube of Laredo and Derek Landmesser of Memphis, and Bossier-Shreveport goaltender Ken Carroll.
"As an organization, we are very proud of Jeff's accomplishments," said SteelHounds coach Jean Laforest. "He has represented the SteelHounds well in the team's inaugural season and we are appreciative of his work ethic and professionalism and the strong standing he holds within the CHL."
The Burlington, Ontario native also ranks among the league leaders with 19 power play goals, nine game-winning goals and four short-handed goals (tied for fourth).
Player of week three times
Christian was named CHL player of the week three times. He leads the 'Hounds with 29 multiple point games, including 15 multiple goal games.
Christian is one of the six finalists for the CHL's most valuable player award which will be announced Friday.
Hahn leads the CHL with 75 assists and 109 points, while Pankewicz, last year's league MVP, has 43 goals and 42 assists. They are also finalists for the MVP award, along with Wichita's Joe Blaznek, Odessa's Sebastien Thinel and Bossier-Shreveport's Dan Wildfong.
Dube had 13 goals and 41 assists prior to his call-up Sunday to San Antonio of the American Hockey League. Landmesser leads all defensemen with 75 points and 59.
Carroll ranks among the top 10 in several categories. His four shutouts lead the CHL and he has posted a record of 20-7-4, with a goals against average of 2.31 and a save percentage of .921.
Season's final series
The SteelHounds play host to the Fort Worth for three games this week, starting Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. The season will conclude with games Friday and Saturday, also at 7:05 p.m.
