Weathersfield board OKs 2006-07 school year

MINERAL RIDGE -- The Weathersfield school board has approved the school year for 2006-07. It's the same plan in place for this year.
Teachers will start staff professional days Aug. 24 and 25, and the first day for pupils will be Aug. 28.
The last day for pupils will be June 6. Pupils will get a 12-day break at Christmas, from Dec. 21 to Jan. 2.
Easter break will be 10 days, with no school from April 6-13, which includes two weekends.
Pupils will be in school a total 180 days and teachers will be in school 183 days.
In other business at its recent meeting, the board approved Katie Garland as a volunteer varsity softball coach for this year.
Superintendent Michael Hanshaw announced the first-grade spring music program will be at 7 p.m. April 11 at the high school and the eighth-grade trip to Washington, D.C., will be April 11-13.
