State board sets hearings on Salem Fire Department's complaint
COLUMBUS -- The State Employment Relations Board has scheduled two hearings on the Salem Fire Department's complaint against the city.
A pre-hearing will be May 8, and a hearing will be May 18.
Craig R. Mayton, SERB's executive director, said an administrative law judge will hear the complaint and submit his findings to SERB's board for action.
Fire department members claim the city committed an unfair labor practice last year after it renewed a three-year contract with the fire department's union. Council then formed the Quaker Community Fire District with Perry Township to replace the city and township fire departments.
Council members said at the time that city and township firemen could apply for jobs at the new district. A judge has blocked the fire district from becoming operational.
