Seminar covers Internet safety

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Christian School is offering a free seminar, "Internet Safety," to educate parents on the dangers of the Web.
This program, led by local FBI agent Bonnie Hartmann, will be at 7 p.m. March 28 in the school gymnasium, 4425 Southern Blvd.
The program, which is free and open to the public, is designed for parents and will discuss such matters as how to supervise your child while on the Internet and what information should never be disclosed over the Internet, said Rev. Gary L. Johnston, Youngstown Christian School superintendent.
Sometimes parents don't know what their child is doing on the Internet or how to talk to their child about what isn't safe, Johnston said. Some parents aren't computer-savvy, and this program is designed to help them be more alert to what's going on, he said.
In some circumstances, the Web is becoming obscene and too personal, and there's no Webmaster to regulate, he said.
The program will last about an hour, followed by a question-and-answer session, Johnston said.
The children will be educated before the program during school hours, Johnston said. They will be split into two groups: One session will be for elementary school children, and another will be for junior and senior high school students.
