COLUMBUS -- Courtney Schuster scored 14 points, including the go-ahead layup, and Mentor Lake Catholic defeated top-ranked Morrow Little Miami 51-44 in a Division II state semifinal Friday.
The Cougars, a .500 team during the regular-season, won their ninth consecutive game to advance to their first championship game Saturday.
Alexis Karel overcame early foul trouble to score nine points, grab 10 rebounds and block a key shot in the closing moments for Lake Catholic (17-10).
Jill Mohr added 11 points and 15 rebounds for Lake Catholic. Dana Radley made three 3-pointers and scored 12 points, six above her average. Schuster also doubled her scoring average.
Missy Ramsey led Little Miami (26-1) with 10 points. The Panthers, AP poll champions after an undefeated regular season, were playing in their first state tournament.
Warsaw River View 51, Copley 44, OT
COLUMBUS -- Freshman Kari Daugherty and her junior sister Kristin took turns making big plays in overtime, lifting Warsaw River View in a Division II state semifinal.
Daughters of coach Caroline Daugherty, Kari hit the tying free throws with 1:46 to play and Kristin drove for the go-ahead layup 34 seconds later. Ashley Owens and Kari Daugherty each made two free throws after that, finishing an 8-0 run for a 50-44 lead with 24.4 seconds to play.
The Black Bears (25-1) will try for their first state title since 1982 on Saturday against Mentor Lake Catholic, which defeated Morrow Little Miami 51-44 in the other Division II semifinal.
Carrie Dyer led Copley (22-5) with 24 points and made several plays that helped her team build a six-point lead with 5:08 left in regulation. But the Indians failed to score over the next five minutes, enabling River View to rally.
Kari Daugherty finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Kristin Daugherty, a first-team All-Ohioan, had 14 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and three steals. Whitney Williams added 12 points for River View.
Solon 66, Wadsworth 62
COLUMBUS -- Kourtney Brown scored 31 points and provided the defensive stops that helped Solon hold off Wadsworth, sending the Comets to the Division I girls state championship game.
With her skinny 6-foot frame and long arms, Brown blocked one shot and harassed Wadsworth shooters into four point-blank misses in the fourth quarter while the game was far from decided. She also had three inside baskets in the final period.
If it wasn't for Brown, who also had 12 rebounds, Solon (23-3) wouldn't be playing for its first state title Saturday. The Comets nearly lost a 14-point lead because they couldn't hold onto the ball, committing 25 turnovers, and couldn't make free throws, shooting 7-of-19 at the line.
Erin Wisner added 18 points and 11 rebounds for Solon.
Cassie Schrock, a first-team All-Ohioan, led Wadsworth (23-4) with 21 points. Jen Uhl had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Emily Brede added 11 points.
