YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown City Health District will celebrate National Public Health Day on April 3 by offering free blood pressure screening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its offices at Oakhill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave. Also, free tuberculosis testing, and eight-hour fasting blood sugar and cholesterol tests, at a cost of $5 per test, will be available from 10 a.m. to noon. Refreshments will be available, Wayna Hightower, nursing director, said.
Park Vista health expo
YOUNGSTOWN -- Park Vista's Senior Health and Wellness Expo is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday in the main lobby of Park Vista South, 1216 Fifth Ave. The Expo offers bone density and blood pressure screenings, living will/power of attorney information; other programs of interest to seniors such as information on diabetes, the Medicare prescription drug program, diet and depression; and a fitness program. Admission is free and open to the public.
For cancer patients
WARREN -- The American Cancer Society and Humility of Mary Health Partners offer a panel discussion for women who are receiving cancer treatment March 27 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph's Cancer Care Center, 667 Eastland Ave. The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be available.
Also, women who want information about cancer treatment, and licensed cosmetologists in Trumbull County, may attend and learn about the American Cancer Society's Look Good Feel Better program.
The panel includes Debbie Dorchock, a registered oncology nurse; Mary Kathryn Paucio, a cosmetologist and facilitator of Look Good Feel Better; and Lynn Robinson, a radiation therapist. To register, call toll-free at (888) 227-6446.
HMHP diabetes education
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Humility of Mary Health Partners Diabetes Education Program has received continuation of the Certificate of Education Recognition from the American Diabetes Association. At HMHP, the staff consists of Kay Leonhart, diabetes education coordinator; Barb Karlen, diabetes educator, St. Joseph Health Center; Marlene Rafidi, diabetes education dietitian; Laraine Solvesky, diabetes education associate; and volunteers Doris Giancola and Karen Greenlee.
The HMHP diabetes education program offers day and evening diabetes self-management classes at St. Elizabeth and St. Joseph Health Centers, as well as supplemental classes on injectable diabetes medications, glucose meter instruction and individualized meal planning. Talk on natural remedies
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- Evergreen, an eco-spirituality ministry, offers a program on the safe use of natural remedies for women's common health problems Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Villa Maria Community Center on the Villa Maria campus located one mile south of U.S. Route 422 on EverGreen Road. Cancer society offers
ALLIANCE -- Free mammograms and nicotine replacement patches are available to residents in Alliance and surrounding communities because of an anonymous donation of $26,440 made to the American Cancer Society.
The free mammograms are available for women between the ages of 40 and 64 who qualify economically. Women age 64 and older qualify for a mammogram through Medicare. The guidelines for these free mammograms are similar to the Ohio Breast and Cervical project, also known as the Pink Ribbon Project, said Julie Cash-Beltz of the American Cancer Society office in Canton.
The mobile unit of Tiffany Breast Care Center is partnering with the cancer society to provide the free mammograms. Those who want to take advantage of this program should call (330) 629-8624. Proof of eligibility is required.
The American Cancer Society's Fresh Start smoking cessation program consists of four, one-hour sessions conducted during a two-week period.

Hospice grant
ALLIANCE -- The Alliance Visiting Nurse Association & amp; Hospice, the home care department at Alliance Community Hospital, received a $2,500 grant from Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ohio Hospice & amp; Palliative Care Organization for its Bright Light Program, which supports families that have children in hospice care. The grant will be used to provide activities for the families, and to further the education of staff members interested in gaining expertise in pediatric home care.
Coping with stress
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Dr. Bruce Rabin, professor of pathology and psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School and director of the UPMC Health Lifestyle Program, will present "Coping with Stress for a Better Quality of Mental and Physical Health" on April 3 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Womancare Center of UPMC, 875 N.
