Two jail inmates indicted in attack on deputy sheriff

A man also has been indicted in the city's first murder of the year.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two Mahoning County jail inmates have been indicted in an attack Saturday night on a deputy sheriff.
A direct presentment was made this week to a county grand jury, which on Thursday handed up indictments against Michael A. Jones, 20, of Fourth Street, Struthers, and Wayne Castle, 25, of West Wood Street, Youngstown. Both are charged with felonious assault, a first-degree felony.
Deputy Kevin Vivacqua was beaten with his own radio and had scalding water thrown on him, Sheriff Randall A. Wellington said. Vivacqua was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center for a cut above his left eye. Jones has been in jail since Feb. 24 on charges of intimidation and aggravated menacing. His case is pending in common pleas court.Castle will be sentenced March 31 after pleading guilty Monday to six counts of rape. The victims were two girls who were ages 7 and 3 when the rapes occurred in November 2003.
Other indictments
The grand jury also issued a murder indictment against Jason Carter, 29, of Carroll Street, Youngstown. Carter is charged in the death of Jamie White, 40, of Boardman. White's body was found Jan. 1 under the bridge at Salt Springs Road and Bridge Street.
Ronald Henderson, 28, who gave addresses on Parkview and Hudson avenues, Youngstown, and Genelle White, 24, of Dogwood Lane, Youngstown, were indicted in the same case. Henderson is charged with one count of rape, two counts of endangering children and one count of felonious assault, all involving a 2-year-old girl Jan. 8.
White is charged with endangering children, as the parent or guardian of the victim, and obstructing justice.
