BOARDMAN Police pact

Trustees and members of the patrol union approved a three-year agreement, running through Dec. 31, 2008. Some provisions:
Cadets, or officers with less than six months on the job, will earn $20.35 per hour on the day shift, $20.85 per hour on afternoons and $21 per hour for night shift. Those amounts increase in 2007 to $21.17, $21.67 and $21.82 per hour, and in 2008, their hourly rate increases to $22.01, $22.51 and $22.66.
Senior police officers, or those with at least five years' service, will earn $26.10 per hour this year on the day shift, $26.60 per hour for afternoons and $26.75 hourly on the night shift. Next year, those hourly amounts increase to $27.14, $27.65 and $27.70. In 2008, the hourly rates will be $28.23, $28.73 and $28.88 based on the shift differentials.
The new contract also adds another 1 percent in the newly created senior patrol officers steps. Those steps start with 10 years and go up in five-year increments to 25 years on the job. The 1 percent is added for each step.
The agreement also calls for a one-time $250 per officer accreditation bonus to mark the department's achievement to meet the national law enforcement standards.
Another provision changes the attendance incentive to match that of some other unions. An officer who has perfect attendance earns $150 per quarter. That's up from $150 previously paid per six months without missing a day. Curt B. Seditz, township administrator, said the attendance incentive aims to reduce overtime caused by the need to call out officers to meet minimum staffing levels.
