Wait until later if you need new shoes

Dear Readers: Have you bought shoes early in the day that felt tight when you put them on later that day? There's a reason! Experts say it's better to shop for shoes late in the afternoon, because your feet are usually larger from water retention. Here are some other hints to help keep your feet feeling fine:
To relieve aching feet, sit on the edge of the tub and alternate running cold and hot water over your feet a couple of times. I even do this with my pantyhose on when I'm in a hotel and must zip between meetings. I towel-dry, then blast them with the hair dryer.
To exercise tired footsies, roll them over a bottle, can or tennis ball and then massage with soothing lotion.
If your leather shoes or boots get wet, don't place them near heat or in direct sunlight to dry. Fill shoes or boots with newspapers or crumpled paper bags to help absorb moisture and to keep the shape.
For smooth leather (not suede), you can do a quick polish by applying a light coat of petroleum jelly, mineral oil or sweet oil, and then wiping with a soft, clean cloth. Heloise
Dear Heloise: I like to crochet with the new crazy/fancy yarns but find that the leftovers have a tendency to unwind and get tangled up with everything. After numerous unsuccessful attempts at keeping them under control, I decided to put each one in a separate nude-color half-stocking -- the stockings are less than $5 for about a dozen. It works great, and I can see what is inside. Anette Lowery, Vista, Calif.
Dear Heloise: When I want to buy only enough of a variety of vegetables to make soup and I don't care for the prepackaged selections, I go to the salad bar for many items. I get what I'm looking for, and they are already chopped up.
I'm a vegetarian, so I make vegetable soup often. I change the ingredients just about every time I make a new batch. Carol Linda Pappas, Kenilworth, N.J.
Dear Heloise: We will be moving later this year, so I have marked a large yellow envelope "Moving." I am collecting return addresses from current subscriptions, bills, etc. This will make it easier to announce my new address (either online or via snail mail) when the time comes.
I also collect clippings and hints regarding making moving easier, including my own "to do" list as the ideas pop up. Cynthia A. Alarie, San Antonio
Dear Heloise: I read your column in the San Antonio Express-News. My hint: After I use an eyeglass-cleaner sheet to clean my eyeglasses, I use it to clean the glass in my door. It works perfectly. Frances in Texas
