Judge sends weapons, drug case to grand jury

YOUNGSTOWN -- A Lexington Avenue man has been bound over to the grand jury on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, aggravated trafficking in drugs, possession of drugs and illegal possession of a weapon because he has a prior conviction.
Brandon Owens, 22, appeared before Judge Robert Milich in Youngstown Municipal Court for a preliminary hearing Wednesday, and Milich ordered the case held for the grand jury on all counts.
Owens was arrested March 6 by the Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force after he had failed to report to the Ohio Adult Parole Authority in an earlier case.
At the time of his arrest on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, police said they found a loaded 9 mm handgun and suspected drugs on him.
He remained in Mahoning County Jail on Wednesday on $100,000 bond.
Owens had pleaded guilty in February 2005 to charges of carrying a concealed weapon and to illegally having a weapon and was sentenced to nine months in prison followed by three years of parole.
