AUSTINTOWN School board

The school board also handled these matters:
Heard a complaint from Gail Blevins, a seventh-grade reading and English teacher at Frank Ohl Middle School, that she would like to be notified when the district's insurance drops a medical service provider. Blevins said during a trip with her child to an emergency room, she was told that ER had been dropped, and had to take her child elsewhere. She also said she went to a pharmacy for medicine only to be told again the insurer had dropped the pharmacy. She said she paid full price for her child's medicine. The board said district Treasurer Barb Kliner would look into the situation.
Heard presentations that rallied for support of two renewal levies on the May ballot. Fitch High School science teacher James Murphy provided research that shows how much homeowners pay for the levies, which will not raise taxes. At one end of the scale, he said, a homeowner whose home is worth $70,000 pays 47 cents a day. At the other end, a homeowner whose home is worth $310,000 pays $2.07.
Informed residents the district is having community meetings about the levies, which represent about $5.2 million of the general fund. They are all at 6:30 p.m. on these dates: March 22 at Austintown Middle School, April 5 at Frank Ohl, April 12 at Woodside Elementary and April 26 at Fitch.
