MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Senior Chris Dennis threw six shutout innings in a 7-1 victory over Morehead State Tuesday.
Dennis allowed only three hits, walked three and struck out six hitters to earn his first win since May 15, 2004, against Illinois-Chicago.
Kevin Libeg allowed one hit in two shutout innings of relief and Ryan Sellman finished it, despite allowing a home run.
Dustin Thomas had three hits and J.D. Hannan had two, including his first career home run. Hannan scored three times and drove in three runs.
Charles Schultz, Erich Diedrich and Justin Banks added two hits apiece for the Penguins (2-8).
YSU's Erich Deidrich was named Horizon League player of the week.
Diedrich hit .556 (5-for-9), slugged 1.000 and posted an on-base percentage of .692 in a three-game series against Austin Peay.
The sophomore leads the team in average (.379), hits (11), RBIs (9) and home runs (2), and his slugging percentage of .690 leads the Ho rizon League. The Bay Village native has hit safely in the last seven games.

SteelHounds announceLadies Night March 22
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown SteelHounds announced that the March 22 game will be "Ladies Night" at the Chevrolet Centre, featuring a $2 discount on any ticket regularly priced $10 or higher for all ladies.
There will be a "Bachelor's Auction" immediately following the game against the Fort Worth Brahmas.
The auction will feature SteelHounds players who will be auctioned off to the highest bidder with the winner receiving a tour of the Chevy Centre, a limo to dinner and a date with a SteelHound.
Players scheduled to take part in the auction include Darryl Lloyd, Chris Shaffer, Ben Manny, Kelly Sickavish, Sam Miller and J.R. Holmes.
Boardman track
BOARDMAN -- Freshman Lauren Agnew of Boardman High placed fourth with a season-best time of 11 minutes, 54.46 seconds in the 3200-meter run at the Ohio State Indoor Classic track and field meet.
Senior Lauren Blase finished eighth in the 3200 (12:01.77) in a career-best indoor effort.
Junior Breanne Romeo placed eighth in the 400 (62.16).
Agnew (3200), freshman Corey Carter (high jump) and the 4x800 relay of freshman Lea Byers, Agnew, senior Michelle Bistrica and Blase qualified for the Ohio High School Indoor state championships Saturday at the University of Akron.
Canfield basketball
CANFIELD -- The Canfield seventh grade girls basketball team completed a 14-0 record. The Cardinals won the MAC-TAC championship with a 30-25 win over Salem. Kellie Kessner led the Cardinals with 21 points.
Canfield's eighth grade girls won the MAC-TAC crown as they topped Struthers 58-51 in overtime.
Jillian Halfhill led the Cardinals (12-5) with 32 points.
The Cardinals' ninth grade girls rolled to a 17-0 season, which included a 42-22 victory over Salem for the MAC-TAC title. Anokha Padubidri paced Canfield with 20 points.
McDonald coaches
McDONALD -- The McDonald Board of Education approved several supplemental athletic spring sports contracts recently: Ken Wills assistant softball coach; Tony Vitullo, volunteer assistant softball coach; Jamie Fortune, junior high school girls track; John Fields, Tammy Camuso, and Emily McGahagan, all volunteer assistant track.

Gooden arrested
TAMPA, Fla. -- Former baseball pitcher Dwight Gooden was arrested Tuesday on charges of violating the terms of his probation.
The 41-year-old pleaded guilty in November to speeding away from police after a DUI traffic stop in August 2004 and was sentenced to three years probation. On Tuesday he went to a regular meeting with a probation officer, where he admitted to using cocaine, according to Jo Ellyn Rackleff, a spokeswoman for the Dept. of Corrections.

GLADSTONE, N.J. -- Michelle Wie confirmed Tuesday that she will play in the HSBC Women's World Match Play Championship, joining Annika Sorenstam and Paula Creamer in the July 6-9 tournament at Hamilton Farm Golf Club.
Swoopes, Smith set for European tour
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Sheryl Swoopes and Katie Smith will represent the United States this month in a three-game European basketball tour, the second stage in evaluations for the world championships this September in Brazil.
The U.S. team will face the EuroLeague's USO Mondeville Basket March 20 in Mondeville, France; the Hungarian All-Star team March 22 in Gyor, Hungary; and the EuroLeague MiZo Pecsi March 24 in Pecs, Hungary.
Smith, from Logan, Ohio who averaged 17.0 points this month on the U.S. team's first European tour, and Swoopes are set to play along with Alana Beard, Chasity Melvin, Nicole Ohlde, Kristin Haynie, Taj McWilliams-Franklin, Michelle Snow and Kendra Wecker.
