RALEIGH, N.C. -- Doug Weight scored two goals and Carolina set franchise records for victories, home wins and points in a season. Matt Cullen, Mike Commodore and Cory Stillman also scored for the Hurricanes, who earned their 44th victory, 27th home win and 94th point in the standings -- surpassing three records set in Hartford during the 1986-87 season. Martin Gerber made with 41 saves to help Carolina avoid its first four-game losing streak of the season. Michael Nylander scored two goals for New York, which has lost six straight after wining seven in a row. Petr Sykora also scored for the Rangers.
Senators 4, Lightning 3
OTTAWA -- Daniel Alfredsson scored with 7 seconds left in the third period to lift the Senators. Alfredsson assisted on Dany Heatley's tying goal earlier in the period and got the winner moments before the end of regulation, tipping Jason Spezza's pass beyond John Grahame into an open right side from the edge of the crease. Heatley, who had a goal and two assists, scored his team-leading 38th goal on a 5-on-3 advantage 4:19 into the third to tie it at 3. Spezza had three assists and Chris Neil also scored for Ottawa, which has won eight of nine overall. Vincent Lecavalier scored his 29th and 30th goals and Dimitry Afanasenkov also scored for Tampa Bay, which has lost six of eight.
Islanders 6, Devils 1
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Rick DiPietro made 16 saves, and Alexei Yashin scored two goals to lead New York to its fourth straight victory. DiPietro won his seventh straight start and has allowed one goal or less in the last four games. He lost his shutout bid on a fluke goal by Paul Martin, a flip shot at 10:59 of the third that caromed off the side glass and landed in the net. Sean Bergenheim had a goal and two assists, and Jeff Tambellini, Shawn Bates and John Erskine also scored for the Islanders.
Sabres 6, Capitals 4
WASHINGTON -- Ales Kotalik scored with 1:43 to play to help Buffalo run its winning streak to seven games. Daniel Briere had two goals and two assists, and Derek Roy, Maxim Afinogenov and Tim Connolly also scored for the Sabres. Alex Ovechkin scored his 43rd goal and had two assists for the Capitals, giving him 82 points. He's the first rookie with 80 or more points since Mikael Renberg had 82 with Philadelphia in 1993-94. Ben Clymer had two goals and an assists, and Jeff Halpern also scored for the Capitals.
Maple Leafs 5, Bruins 4, SO
TORONTO -- Darcy Tucker scored the only goal in a shootout to lead Toronto. Mats Sundin scored twice and had an assist, and Bryan McCabe scored and had an assist, and Jason Allison added a goal for the Maple Leafs. Marco Sturm scored twice, and Marty Reasoner and Glen Murray added goals for Boston. The Bruins have lost six straight.
Predators 5, Canucks 0
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tomas Vokoun made 31 saves for his third shutout of the season and Dan Hamhuis and Scott Hartnell each had a goal and an assist for Nashville. Jordin Tootoo, Scottie Upshall, and Jerred Smithson also scored for the Predators, and Steve Sullivan had three assists.
Oilers 2, Wild 1
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Dwayne Roloson made 30 saves to beat his former Minnesota teammates for his first victory with Edmonton. The Wild traded Roloson to Edmonton last week for a first-round draft pick this summer and future considerations. Chris Pronger and Ryan Smyth scored for Edmonton, which ended a four-game road losing streak. Kurtis Foster scored for Minnesota.
